The Mean edition of CI 1-α calculates confidence intervals for a sample mean. By default it utilises the t distribution method for the most common scenario in which the standard deviation is estimated based on the observed values. The normal distribution method can be selected for less common scenarios in which the population standard deviation is known. ​
